Michigan State University CIO Melissa Woo to retire
Michigan State University Chief Information Officer Melissa Woo will retire at the end of the week, according to a social media post she shared on Monday morning.
Woo wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that her “husband finally convinced her to retire” and that they’ll move to the Pacific Northwest.
Woo joined the university as its CIO in 2019 and picked up additional responsibilities over the years, including the role of executive vice president for administration in 2020 and president of the MSU Research Foundation.
“Throughout her career, and since joining MSU in 2019 as senior vice president for information technology and chief information officer, Melissa has proven herself as a skilled administrator of large, complex units with a keen ability to refine cross-organizational synergies,” her MSU biography reads online.
Woo also chairs the board of directors for the Merit Network, a nonprofit co-founded at MSU that advances IT research. She also sits on Educause’s board of directors.
EdScoop last year named Woo its Higher Education IT Executive of the Year. In 2019 Educause awarded her an inaugural Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leadership Award.
Before joining MSU, she worked for three years as CIO at Stony Brook University in New York. Before that, she served as CIO at the University of Oregon.
