Montclair State University names new CIO

Montclair State University in New Jersey on Monday announced it’s appointed a new chief information officer, who has decades of experience working with information technology in higher education and the private sector.

David Chun will officially begin his new position at Montclair State University on May 1, university leaders said. He most recently served as CIO and associate vice president at Sonoma State University in California. 

“I am honored to join the Montclair State University community, where technology fuels educational excellence, research and social mobility,” Chun said in a press release. “My wife, Wendy, and I share many of Montclair’s core values of serving the public interest and advancing student success. We are very pleased to return to the tri-state area.” 

Chun served as the first CIO and associate vice president at Hamline University in Minnesota and also worked as an assistant dean at the University of Miami’s Herbert Business School. Outside of higher education, he has experience working in the private sector, overseeing IT operations for Fortune 500 corporations, including FIS Global, according to the release. 

Chun is currently pursuing an advanced degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, the release said. 

“David is a leader with extensive experience as a Chief Information Officer, and is someone who has previously led the initiatives we are implementing here at Montclair State University,” Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President Ben Durant said in the release. “His commitment to student success and to serving the public good, and his keen knowledge of the higher education landscape make him the ideal fit to lead the institution in this area.”
