New cyber workforce program invites universities, underserved communities
The California IT security firm Stellar Cyber on Tuesday announced a new program that plans to provide higher education institutions with cybersecurity technology, curriculums and experts in an effort to develop the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.
The Stellar Cyber University Program is available on an invite-only basis for campuses and underserved communities, both of which often lack access to resources required to provide effective cybersecurity instruction and defend against cyberattacks, a release says.
“All too often, students graduate from college without being exposed to the fantastic career opportunities in the cybersecurity industry,” Paul Levasseur, vice president of customer and partner enablement at Stellar Cyber, said the release. “Stellar Cyber wants to ensure that students understand the exciting and fulfilling opportunity that exists in cybersecurity, so they can make more informed career decisions.”
In addition to curriculum and experts, the program provides training and certification in the latest security technologies, mentorship and career opportunities. Institutions can also access licensing for not-for-profit educational lab environments, as well as discounts for Stellar Cyber products related to security.
“Stellar Cyber is proud to offer this comprehensive, collaborative education program free of charge for those training and developing our cyber warriors of the future,” Jim O’Hara, Stellar Cyber’s chief revenue officer, said in the release. “We are honored to do our part to help reduce the worldwide cybersecurity skills gap and provide security services to communities in need. We plan to scale the Stellar Cyber University Program as broadly as possible globally, to assist academic institutions as they prepare their graduates to enter the cybersecurity workforce.”
